TIGER SHARK 25 MILES OFFSHORE IN THE GULF FRIDAY 1/30/15

Words & Photos by Matt Welch

Friday seemed like the only day that would be fishable so we figured we'd give it a try.
It was really calm when we left the canal.

We spent the day in about 95 ft. There was no wind or current at the first spot and we
would barely even move even though we hadn't anchored. We caught a couple fish but it was pretty slow.
We moved on and both the breeze and the bite picked up a little. We were able to anchor
and started catching a mix of red grouper and snapper. Troy had the fish of the day with a 24" 7lb
mangrove. It was a fatty. He also had a few nice grouper.

Tommy hooked into something different that started to run. We were disappointed to see it
was a shark until we realized it was a Tiger shark. It's always cool to catch a new species.
We caught a Mako a few years back but this was the first Tiger. The shark was caught and released.
