Ryan from Gulfster Interviews Tony Coleman,
the maker of Aura's new film "Habitat"

Tony Editing away..

Incase anyone didn't know there is a HUGE event happening Friday December 30th at Boomerz in Seminole - The Premiere of "Habitat" by Tony Coleman of aurasurfproductions/aurasurf. Tony is the maker of one of the greatest gulfcoast videos ever "Gulf Blvd." I had the pleasure of interviewing Tony before the premiere.

Hi Tony, surfline picked your video from the Inlet pro last
January for their video section, I'm sure they had tons of videos to go
through with everyone and their mom out shooting. How cool was that?
"That was pretty cool, those guys from surfline are always asking for vid clips, and sometimes they will put your stuff up. The one I sent was probably the first one they
got, so they put it up."

Then to follow it up with one of the best gulfcoast clips I've ever
seen online - a video from last hurricane season that was unbelievable.
Is any of that footage going to be on Habitat?
"Ya, most of that footage will be on the movie"

What locations are on Habitat?
"Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, and the East and West coasts of Florida,
with the gulf portion taking up about 3/4 of the movie.
"

How long is the video?
"About 35 min. long, with 25 minutes of extra bonus footage."

Who all is surfing?
"There are a few pros along with a slew of local rippers."

Incase people have not seen your last Video "Gulf Blvd." or any of your
other vids, what can they expect out of this one?
"Hopefully it's one of those movies that you watch and then say to yourself...
I need to go surfing now, and also explore some different spots."

When did you start shooting this film. From what dates does it cover?
"From hurricane season 2004 through this current hurricane season."

As far as your last video "Gulf Blvd." talk about it's success
"I think it had a lot to do with the need for people to be able to watch some
Gulf footage for a change and to see the local guys surfing the local breaks."

How many copies do you estimate you sold?
"We stopped counting at about 350, so I'd say we sold a pretty good amount.
Not the best quality footage or vid but it was our first go at it, and it was fun to make.
"

Do you have any more videos planned after this one?
"Ya, probably a documentary type flick that will definitely be of interest to everyone who surfs the Gulf."

Coleman getting Barreled at one of his favorite gulf breaks this winter...

Without giving away the flick, where was your most favorite spot(s) you
shot during this film? Is there any one spot that stood out the most?
Any surfer's that stood out the most?
"Well I love going to P.R. but it's not always the easiest place to shoot vid. My favorite clips are of the average Gulf spots blowin up during the hurricanes. The few surfers that really stood out were Baron Knowlton, Steve Kepler, and of course Cory."

Who are some of your favorite guys to surf with?
"The old timers I guess...lol, Micah Weaver and Bob Bulatowitz actually are the ones that got me into surfing and we still are a pretty tight crew. I just like surfing with guys that don't take themselves too seriously and have fun."

Who are some of your favorite guys to film?
"All the local crew and anyone that has good style and a good attitude."

What is your favorite surf video? And why?
"Shelter, just a real chill vid that makes you feel good to be a surfer."

What is your favorite place or general area to surf in the gulf and why?
"Two of my favorites are winter swell spots and one is 10 minutes from my house,
the other is 50 miles away. Pretty much the only 2 spots you'll find me surfing."

Thanks Tony, looking forward to seeing your new film!
"Peace!"
