The History of Surfing Ft. Desoto - the true gem of the Gulf.

As it pertains to “secret spots” - anywhere in the world, there isn’t really such a thing. And eventually - despite the best efforts of well meaning people who try their best to keep things hidden - details get out. Such was the case in the 1980s when rumors arose about a vast stretch of coastline along Florida’s West Coast (off the beating path so to speak)... but rumor was that there were miles of uncharted (and unknown) legit WFL surf spots. The rumors continued through the years... but eventually the Secret Spot became revealed fully in 2005 by an anonymous poster on the gulf surf forum. But as it turned out, since that same revelation occurred, those who choose to explore her coastline continue to be rewarded with glassy tubes and endless uncrowded waves... plus they put in a dog park too... Seek and you shall find. Just remember: Ft. Desoto Picks up swell from just about every direction. So if you check the first spot and it’s flat, just keep driving... eventually you’ll score. Promise.
