2015 NSSA Eastcoast Championships New Smyrna Beach. Words by Tommy Daniels
I witnessed an intense weekend of competition of the East coast's finest up and coming amateurs battle it out in fun, waist-chest high surf, up in New Symrna Beach. My son Christian(14) was among those athletes vying for an East coast cup. Qualifying in 3 divisions, explorer boys14U, explorer jr.15U, and open jr.17U, he quickly realized that he had tough rounds ahead. Narrowly missing advancing in the open jrs., he started out his campaign early in the explorer divisions. Making his way through many heats until losing out in the quarter finals in the jr.'s, he surfed hard and advanced all the way through to secure a spot in the boy's final, who included Stevie Pittman(NC.), Noah Dovin(Fl.), Chase Elmore(Fl.), Bo Raynor(NC.),Micha Cantor(SC.), and Christian Daniels. In the end the older veterans proved that maturity, skill, and patients pays off..
